14th Mar, 2008 -- Pon De Replay Mr. DJ
Every couple of weeks or so, there comes a time in Lee's life when she is physically able to take McFly out of her stereo and concentrate on other artists
IT DOESN'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN!! Especially recently! I think i've been officially "McFLying" for about a month straight now
But yes fortunately this week i've been able to put them to one side briefly and get stuck into some other terrific tunes that have arrived
1)Gwen Stefani - "Early Winter" - I FREAKING THIS SONG!! AND i'm prepared to go on record and say that...
"Early Winter is Gwen Stefani's greatest achievement"
I liken it to Cindy Lauper's "Time after time", in that it feels like Gwen was BORN to sing this tune. It matches her vocal stylings and range PERFECTLY and the whole vibe of the song sums her for 80's synth and electro flavoured pop, and the addition of an incredible string arrangement just takes it to another level
I've seriously had this tune on repeat for the past week and everytime it ends, my finger unavoidably finds itself pressing play on it again
Side note - The music vid is just gorgeous! Big flowing dresses and Gwen looking stunning as usual, slow-motion running... it's got everything
2)Axle Whitehead - "I Don't Do Surprises" - Okay now ask me a year ago if I would consider listening to anything this guy releases and I would tell you to 'get bent..'. The man threw last year's ARIA awards into disripute and although he was clearly intoxcated beyond belief, decided to get the 'ol fella out and 'do things' to the poor statuette that would make your Granny's hair curl ...made my 23yr old hair kink a bit anywayz...
Ordinarily people who violate award statues wouldn't really gain a place in my stereo, but whadda ya know! The dude has released a killer debut single! Even though the vocal is extremely reminiscent of Chris Martin from Coldplay, the tune is catchy and luckily for Axle has gained massive radio airplay around the Nation. Well done to you sir, just remember to do the world a favour & keep it in your trousers man!
3)Ben Lee - "Numb" - Now I cannot leave without mentioning this man's new release "Numb". FREAKING BRILLIANT!! Lyrically the man is clearly frustrated (as are an increasing number of true singer/songwriter's) at the record industry's monopoly on artists and it's souless quest to make everbody conform to it's 'marketability' standards and has had enough
The music is in this track is incredibly free and exorbitantly happy - trumpet's a go-go and definitely Ben Lee at his best!
I the man!
Ugh, an hour till work begins.. thankgod it's Friday!
Side note - MCFLY (feels wrong if I don't pay hommage to them every entry..)
