A Galaxy of Stars BLANKET!

I have a thing for nebulas. Nebulai?!... galaxies. I have a thing for galaxies. I could honestly sit and stare at pictures of them for... you know what, I don't want to put a time limit on it, because a) it's going to be a ridiculously long amount of time and b) ... just re-read reason a.
The formations are just SO BEAUTIFUL and entrancing that I could easily lose track of minutes, days and weeks looking at them.
Lee, why are you crapping on about galaxies?!
Because I have a NEW PROJECT underway !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah I know. Another one. I'm a hopeless case
BUT I'M SO EXCITED!!!
So, as I alluded to in my last post, I had a terrible, sleepless night a few nights back because this idea hatched itself in my brain at stupid o'clock and now i'm well and truly cooking with gas Aka. my hook is unstoppable right now!!!
So as I mentioned, I have a thing for galaxies. I ADORE anything with galaxy print (which was a FAB trend and one that I enjoyed seeing on people around town!) I have also been LOVING settling in at night and popping on my fave films from the Golden era of Hollywood and so..... here comes the 'marriage-made-in-heaven/Lee's-new-project' idea......
A GALAXY OF STARS BLANKET!!!!!
I'm a tad excited.
I LOVE so many of the GREAT Hollywood stars from WAY back in the day and their head shots.... honestly, are among the most beautiful photographs I have ever laid my eyes on so I thought it would be FLIPPING AWESOME to try and marry the classic black & white head shots with a gorgeous galaxy background and BOOM! turn them into a 'Galaxy of Stars Blanket'
Spurred on by excitement, Mr. Cary Grant has already hit 20%!!

Eeee!! I think I have found THE BEST grey palette I have ever used!! The hues have managed to capture that pearlescent glow present in those gorgeous black & white glamour shots put out by the studios which is EXACTLY what I had hoped to achieve!! Plus the galaxy is already starting to make its presence felt!! However I have some GORGEOUS pinks and purples coming up, which should REALLY add to the effect!!

Aren't they pretty!! Mixed in with the greys and blacks and that rich deep blue/purple, UGH i'm so pumped for this project!!! (Does it show ?!?!)
Of course this doesn't mean I have forgotten about Wayne and Garth or the Beatles behemoth that I have on the go!! I will be continuing to work on them, however, just for the moment, the idea of a blanket full of the great Hollywood actors and actresses backed by shimmering galaxies has caught the attention of my hook
Thank goodness, because if we'd have left the yarn-crafting to Cary....

A Galaxy of Stars!

Do you ever suffer from one of those sleepless nights?! You know the ones! When your brain will NOT switch off and decides to burst with exciting new project ideas that have you like till 3am?!?!
Yeah, that was me last night. Which has resulted in me being like this today
Inspiration for a new project struck in the wee small hours and man I have been all arm-flappy and excited since !
Which is bloody TERRIBLE!! I have too many WIPs as it is!!!
So it's a pain in the butt that inspo should strike at such a time, but what is one to do?!?
I'll tell you what one is to do, they plonk their butt down in front of their computer and start working on a pattern that is what they do !!
I'm a hopeless case !
I'm pretty sure we have ALL been in a similar predicament before yes?!? You're working away on a WIP (or 3) that you're super happy and excited about and then BOOM a shiny new project idea starts making with the "Hey!! HEY THERE!! YOO-HOO!!! OVER HERE!!! LOOK HOW NEW AND EXCITING I AM!!!"
And all of a sudden you find your hook veering off in the direction of those whistles and cat-calls and BOOM! Your poor WIPs are left to sit, yet again!
#CROCHETINGPROBLEMS101
I blame the internet. Seeing SO MANY inspirational pieces on my various social media feeds. That's what it is. It sparks that creative part of my brain and that in turn gives my 'impulsive brain' a good kick in the guts and I just can't say no to getting things rolling !
PLUS today I came across a new yarn store and let me just say.... heaven
I shall be returning there tomorrow with a large selection of empty shopping bags
"FAREWELL SELF-IMPOSED YARN BUYING BAN!!!"
Now, as I am an annoying stinker who enjoys being semi-secretive about things, I shall give you two hints, in regards to two projects I have in mind...
HINT #1 - I really can't say anything about this piece. Thanks Lee that's a tremendous help.
HINT #2 - for this project I can! And it is.....

Intriguing no?!?!

Yarnless fingers

Thank god there are books!!
Speaking of which, my current read is winning the battle over my hook when it comes to free time this weekend so far ! Which is crazy considering how pumped I was (and still am) to get back into my Beatles piece!
However, when your current read is....

...it is mighty hard to put it down for some yarn!
I have been meaning to get to 'Anna Karenina', since seeing the Greta Garbo picture a few years ago.
UGH Greta Garbo

She was perfection in this film. The build-up in THAT scene (i'll zip my lip incase I spoil it for people)(Side note- it's not the scene pictured above, however, no Lee, shut up now! lol) but honestly it is STILL the only movie scene to this day that has caused me to LITERALLY be on the edge of my seat ! I remember that when that scene was over, I snapped out of a trance-like state and realised that I had been so consumed by Garbo that my butt was millimetres from falling off the chair, I had bitten all my nails down to the quick and my heart was racing at about 200 beats per minute I have yet to be THAT drawn into a film in such a way since!
So far the book is having the same affect, however, i'm struggling to understand why
It is VERY character driven as opposed to plot
It has short, neatly-packed chapters, which always leave on a cliffhanger
It is well paced
All big ticks in my book, however, something is just a little off... I believe a bit of Tolstoy's magic may have been lost in the translation that I am reading. As I am coming across a few paragraphs that just aren't flowing well and seem to be saying the same thing, four sentences in a row. So I believe I may try a re-read in future with a different translation (For those playing at home, i'm reading the Penguin Classics 'red spine' edition published in 2010)
Slightly dodgy translation aside, I am loving it and can't put it aside for the hook just yet !
I mean i'm sort of afraid too... wouldn't you be, when the ever-lasting image of Anna you have in your head gives you this look?!?

That. Stare. Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu god she was good

"The Shitty Beatles"

Say G'Day to 20% on Wayne & Garth!!!

Sliiiiiiightly awkward spot for a progress pic, as Wayne's bottom teeth are just starting to come in and it does look a tad frightening out of context
I'm feeling a little more comfortable with that grey now too. If it does end up being too light, I think i'll be able to pass it off as a 'sprinkle-type' effect At least that is what i'll be telling myself to rationalise not taking the time to go shopping for the right shade in the first place
In other news...

Remember these guys?!?
Lately, my Ipod has been having a love affair with the Beatles. When I have it on shuffle, it seems that every second or third tune that comes on is one of theirs ! So, i'm taking it as a sign that I should get my hook back into the MASSIVE piece I started waaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2011! !!

I forgot how much I loved this piece!!
I started this one so long ago that I was still using a 5mm hook so it's certainly going to be a challenge in getting used to a much larger hook and the looser tension that goes along with it! So stoked to dive back in though !!
I'm at a loss as to why it got left behind to be honest because all the hard colour changes are done! That black expanse above George's head is preetty much smooth sailing as far as black goes (with the exception of a lil surprise ) so I really have no clue why I bundled it up and forgot about it !
I'm ready to rock on with it now though !!
Happy crocheting this weekend folks!

Einstein!!!

FEAST YOUR EYES ON THIS MASTERPIECE!!!!!
The colours!! Oh my gosh the COLOURS !!!!
This GORGEOUS multi-coloured Einstein has come to life via the work of my friend and insanely talented hookster VALERIE and the bestest part is.... that he is currently heading from Belgium to Australia to come and live with ME !!! !!!!

If you are new to the blog, back in January 2016, I ran a crochet-along, in which I created 10 personal patterns for 10 people to crochet all at the same time The lovely Valerie and I decided to choose a piece to crochet for each other and do a bit of a 'swap' and the time for that swap is here !!!!
The tigers piece is currently on the way to Belgium and my beloved Einstein is currently on his way down under!! So exciting !!
I just hope he's not exposed to the elements (e.g. the wind!) on his way over Valerie! Otherwise he could look a little different when he gets here !!!

Crests and party animals

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!!
Actually, weather-wise, it hasn't ! I am STILL freezing my ninis off !
We're currently experiencing the "Spring winds" here, but unfortunately they have 'buddied up' with an ARCTIC BLAST coming from Antarctica, so my coat is not destined for the back of my closet just yet !!
But there's no such thing as climate change right?!.....
Anywho!
It is time to set your faces to STUNNED once again!!!
CHECK IT OUT!!!

I mean, does that not take you straight to your happy place?!?!
This UNBELIEVABLY PERFECT Hogwarts crest was made by the INSANELY TALENTED STEPHANIE and honest to goodness, the colours, the tension, the everything is just absolutely SPOT ON! !!
What makes this piece even MORE special, is that Stephanie will be adding to it to take it from being a simple little crest panel to being the centerpiece of a blanket for her baby boy
If being momentarily taken back to Hogwarts didn't get your warm and fuzzies going, then that piece of news sure should!!
I swear, hearing that these patterns are being made into such thoughtful and beautiful gifts is the BEST part of my crocheting life and yes, i'm going to take a moment to be EXTRA cheesy and say that it is indeed, quite simply, magical !
You know what ISN'T magical?!?!?
GARTH ALGAR'S FLIPPING HAIR THAT'S WHAT!!!

GOOD LORD IT IS A MOUNTAIN OF COLOUR-CHANGES!
I am enjoying the effect though !
Thank the stars for Wayne's jet black mullet as it gives my fingers a nice little reprieve with some solid black action for a good 50 stitches on each row
This marks the 10%! mark and I am mucho excited for the next 10! Mouths they are a coming!
