Square number #7 of my 'Christmas Character Blanket' guys! The Christmas stocking !!
This worked up super quickly! 2 crochet sessions and a bunch of Star Trek Next Generation episodes and BOOM it was done !
I'm not entirely happy with my colour choices on this one I really wanted to go with a dark green background, but for some reason, dark green just isn't in favour this season... this bottle green was the darkest I could track down (the dark green on the 'wreath' square, etc. is from stash and I didn't have enough left ). So sadly, the other colours didn't POP as much as I would have liked, but perhaps when I border it in the white, it may help?!
The perils of speeding through a piece and not taking the time to lay out your colours next to each other first eh?!
I think it'll be okay in the end though!
The next square I will be bobbling my way through is the 'Frosty the Snowman' square!
Such a super cute square! I'm also going to try and attempt to film/do a little tutorial vid whilst working on it. I've had a few of you get in touch, asking questions about the bobble stitch/reading charts/colour changes/etc. So I thought I'd do a quick little vid, highlighting how I tackle each of those things
I don't really have the 'set-up' to be able to film tutorials very well, but hopefully I can cobble together something that will help you guys out !
Less than 2 months till the big day!! 7 squares done. 2 squares and 2 banners to go! Agghhhh I gotta get a wriggle on!

Preemie Tiger Hat

I don't know about you guys, but I do believe I spy a lil' tiger preemie hat, lurking in amongst the grass
What on earth he's doing on a beach, I'll never know. Summer holiday perhaps ?!?
But isn't he the CUTEST!!!?!!
I initially spotted this project over on the fabulous Terri's youtube channel YARNJOY PODCAST and knew that I had to give him a go!
Since showing him on her regular podcast, Terri has released a 3 part video tutorial to go along with the free pattern from the website Cream Of The Crop Crochet which helped me out IMMENSELY! !
As you guys know, I'm not all that familiar with "fiddly" forms of crochet work, however Terri's tutorial was a great help, ESPECIALLY when it came to placement and how to sew on all the little bits and pieces
If you've been looking for a cute, fun preemie hat pattern, you should definitely check out the pattern and Terri's youtube tutorials! She's just released videos for the panda and polar bear hats and my goodness... they are just the cutest little hats you'll ever see!
As for my little guy, he's certainly not purrfect (couldn't resist), but I had a ball making him and I learnt a lot! So when it comes to making my next one, I'll be ready

Square #6 Gingerbread house @ night!

Square #6 - 'Gingerbread house at night' is fresh off the hook! This is of course the 6th square towards my 'Christmas character bobble blanket' which is being made in conjunction with Terri's year-long CAL, being hosted over on her podcast Yarnjoy Podcast!
I this square so much! I love the 'stained glass' windows and the candy canes flanking the doorway, but the roof is just flipping brilliant! The placement of the snow versus the red and green and ugh I just think it looks so so pretty and man is it giving me all the Christmas feels!
Not gonna lie, there was MAJOR bobbin tangle-age (new word) but to be honest, untangling a bunch of bright beautiful colours wasn't really a chore.
Adoring this blanket so far! My only problem now.... choosing which square to tackle next !

Meet Mimi!

May I introduce Mimi the monkey !!
I finished up all her pieces about 2 days ago, but didn't have the courage to tackle the assembling of said pieces till yesterday
As ya'll know, i'm not too enamored of hand-sewing. THAT, teamed with having to position pieces in VERY SPECIFIC PLACES... basically I was sweating buckets the whole time
Silly isn't it?! You know you can just pull it back and adjust things, but man I felt like I was in an operating theatre! One wrong move and 'she may be done for' type of thing!
You can see why I didn't go into the 'medical field'...
Obviously she isn't perfect, however I am very happy with her! I don't make many amigurumi, as the construction process brings me to the brink of having a nervous breakdown, however I certainly learnt A LOT during the putting together of this little one! The pattern is FABULOUS and can be found for free over at JESSHUFF.COM! She has a bunch of adorable animal patterns available and I think i'm going to have to give the hippo a go too I may be a glutton for punishment, but honestly, pop on over and take a look at her! How on earth could I not have a go at making her?!?!
It's a wonderful feeling, knowing that she is done and ready to gift to my cousin when her little one arrives in Feb. The only problem i'm going to have is when it comes to handing it over!! Ahh so CUTE!!

Monkey progress!

'Mimi' the monkey is slowly coming together! I'm always nervous when it comes to amigurumi but I'm pretty happy with how this lil' one is turning out so far !
This was my first time using safety eyes and although they are slightly wonky I'm pleased I managed to jam them on I say 'jam' because first you have to wrestle the 'screws' through the eye mask and then through the head, so man... it took a fair bit of teeth gritting, heavy breathing and swearing to get them through but eventually I heard that sweet 'click'ing noise and much rejoicing was had !
I now have 'parts' totalling = 1 head, 2 ears, 1 body, 2 arms (with the CUTEST little thumbs you ever did see!)
I still need to crochet: 2 legs, 1 tail and assemble, but I can't wait!! The sewing thus far hasn't been as scary as I thought it would be (as long as we don't count the fact that I sewed her snout on to the top of her head the first time I tried...)
Really looking forward to finishing her up and getting her ready for her big "Tada!" moment!

11th November, 2018 marks the centenary of the end of the First World War. To mark this anniversary, 62,000 handcrafted poppies are being displayed on the grounds of the Australian War Memorial to commemorate Australian lives lost in WW1.
Such a powerfully moving tribute to our fallen Diggers.

Shea's Rockin' it!

Guys, check out these pictures sent in by the marvellously talented SHEA!!
Not only has she attempted and totally nailed the Union Jack swatch, but she was also inspired to make her very own TWINKIECHAN PUMPKIN BERET and it looks so FLIPPING ADORABLE SHEA !!
I'm really digging your choice of orange! Much more 'true to life' than my fluro 'Fanta-pants' !
As well as clearly being very talented with a crochet hook, Shea is an author! The combination of 'hooks & books' strikes again guys! Excitingly, Shea reached out to me and asked if I would like to be sent one of her books for free in exchange for an honest review and as it falls under 'historical fiction' and has elements of time travel in it... naturally I typed 'YES" faster than I thought possible !
I'm planning to get to it in the second half of November, so if you would like to check it out and possibly read along with me head on over and check it out!
Thank you for sending in the pictures Shea!! Can't wait to dive into your book !

Another WIP! Because....why not?!

A cousin of mine is expecting her first Bub! So ya'll know what that means!!?! Time to bust out a cute squishy amigurumi !!
The little one isn't actually due till February but I was scrolling through Ravelry (as you do) and this little guy caught my eye .. and well... I had to start right away!

Awwwww!!! Isn't he the cutest!!?
I definitely urge you to head on over to Jess's pattern page! She has some absolutely GORGEOUS amigurumi animals over there AND they're FREE!!
As you can see I've opted for a lovely, light, lilac coloured monkey! Because that is the only colour I had in stash in that sized ply But who wouldn't love a lilac monkey?! It's a cute, neutral colour, so I'm excited to bring him to life!
I haven't had a whole lot of practice with amigurumi, so I'm taking things slow... being sure to read and re-read the pattern...take my time....breathe (as sometimes I get so focused that I tend to forget that part... not ideal...) and hopefully I'll be able to do Mimi justice. No, I haven't lost my marbles completely, that is the name this little one came with
I'm a bit scared about the dreaded 'assembly' stage, but I'll try and worry about that when I get there !

It's not just me right?! Your jaw hit the floor too right ?!
The ridiculously talented SHATAN has just completed her Totallee CAL 2016 piece and it's flipping incredible !!!
For those not in the know, back in 2016 I ran a 'crochet-a-long', in which I accepted 10 or so people, made a pattern of their choice for them and 'essentially' we were to crochet along on our respective patterns together throughout the year. Sadly, the crochet-a-long didn't go so well, HOWEVER! some cracking pieces were completed and this is one of them!
Flipping incredible work Shatan!! Shatan will also be entering this piece in her state fair and I predict a FLURRY of blue ribbons ..AND jumping llamas!!!!
Best of luck and CONGRATULATIONS Shatan on such an impressive and outstanding portrait!!!
